Workshop: Play and Tell

Wednesday 16th from 10h to 12h
Play and Tell
Play and Tell

This is a workshop related to the International Conference on Live Coding 2019.

This is a moderated Q&A workshop where performers can learn from other performers what their setups, tips, and tricks are as they are performing. Often, it is difficult to know what a performer is doing on stage and what their approach to live performance is. This workshop lets other livecoders dig deeper into their performance setups, preparation methods, and approaches to live composition while they are in the middle of the act. The focus is on loose, friendly forum for sharing and refining technique, setup and strategy.

Live coders will sign up during the start of the conference via an online system and then will perform at the same time as they narrate what they are doing. A moderator will help them articulate their actions and take questions from the audience. This lets people get into the specific details of performance techniques and the different setups, which are usually very personal and hard to understand from simply watching a performance. Each performer will have 5-10 minutes of live performance, followed by a group Q&A at the end.

To give conference attendees a chance to participate, and to assure more diversity (geographic and otherwise) a sign-up sheet will be circulated during the conference and final participants will be decided at the start of the workshop based on that list and the actual attendees. Also, at the end of this workshop, participants will be encouraged to show off their own setup to one another in ad-hok smaller group demonstrations supervised by the moderators.
