Claude Speeed’s original soundtrack of Medialab’s LAB#03
For the fourth track of the original soundtrack of the LAB#03, Claude Speeed has collaborated with Brandon Tay.
Brandon Tay is a Singaporean artist whose work explores emergent complexity in digital materials. Starting out as a prominent figure in Singapore's underground audio-visual scene, he has more recently expanded his practice into one that engages with varying permutations of projection mapping, digital, computer-generated imagery (CGI), time-based and new media, game environment art. In his practice, he complicates distinctions between the tangible and incorporeal, both in composition and well as subject matter, often looking into thematic surrounding the relationships between history and futurity, digital materiality, and contemporary philosophies. As a collaborator and individually, his work has been shown at Art Dubai, tanzhaus nrw Düsseldorf, Kyoto Dance Experiment, Singapore International Festival of the Arts and M1 Fringe Festival Singapore.
To develop this project Speeed worked with AudioLDM to generate an instrumental music sample based on a short description they wrote. They loaded the sample into a sampler and extended it to song length, to then run that through Adobe Voice Enhancer, an additive voice recording improvement tool, several times, leaving them with a disembodied “voice” instead of music.
Brandon used Nvidia Audio2fFace to detect phonemes in the voice, also utilising it to generate lip sync animations. After rendering the resulting busts in Unity, he further processed the images using stable diffusion, using prompts suggested by Chat GPT related to the theories of Stanislaw Lem.
Claude Speeed is a Scottish music producer and artist currently residing in Berlin, whose work investigates themes of memory, perception and futurity. Automation and stochastic processes have always been a major feature of his music, which in the last few years has evolved into generative AI and machine learning spaces. For the LAB#03, Speeed is creating an OST to the themes of Synthetic Minds, responding in sound and visuals.
