User Agreement is an artistic research project exploring the relationship between technology, faith and power in the digital age. Through a critical and speculative lens, it proposes imagining a hypothetical "technological cult" as a way to reflect on how platforms, algorithms and online communities reproduce dynamics of belief, obedience and control.
The project combines theoretical research, testimonies from victims and experts in high-control groups, and collective creation processes involving artists and the public. Through an interdisciplinary and collaborative methodology, it seeks to design a religious imaginary around the digital as a symbolic, ritual and political phenomenon.
Rather than offering answers, User Agreement aims to open up a conversation about the contemporary fascination with technology and its capacity to generate new liturgies, ideologies and forms of community.
Álvaro Soto López (Seville, 1998) interrogates the technologies of capitalism, generating visual metaphors that oscillate between the narrative, the political and the transcendent, in dialogue with Catholic imagery and Andalusian tradition. He studied Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Seville, and holds a Master's in Art Research and Creation from Madrid. He has taken part in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including Relación de Confianza at Espacio Lavadero in Granada and Carlos Computer Caught Fire Five Times at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He currently works as an IT technician.
