Evolution and results of the project
Once the team of the Incoma project was formed [members-incoma-project] we used the first day to clarify the main aspects of the project. With a common idea clear, we decided to look for a example case of debate that we could use to test the ideas of the project. A big debate was found [political-failure-modes-and-th.html] and we draw in a huge paper the way it would look through our future tool. That helped to clarify how it could work in a specific way and to advance with the design. Once the basics of the designs were more or less clear we did some research to choose the language to code it. It was decided to use javascript/html5 so we looked for js libraries to visualize the conversations. After some time we found and decided to use [d3.js] that looked to fit perfectly what we needed. Some very basic examples of visualizations were designed, and then we decided to focus on the one that look more promising. At the same time we worked in the file format for the debates and the way to read and write to this format. After it, we modularised our very basic prototype, in order to prepare it for the future needs. This took some time, to find the bugs, and to clean properly the code. After it we just keept improving the code and the design the last days. The workchoped finished and we were able to have a basic functional prototype to show at the end of it.
We decided to set up as the main task for the next days after the workshop, to design the PHP/MySQL part of the code so it could work in a server, and be accessible for many users at the same time.
New informations about the project could be found in the blog of the project blog.incoma.org
The last version of the code can be found in https://github.com/incoma/incoma under a GPLv3 free software license.
