In order to facilitate the participation of collaborators in your project, it would be of great assistance if you could attach a simple and very brief explanatory video (2/3 min).

The individuals or groups that are ultimately selected undertake to:

  • Attend all days of the workshop.
  • Complete and appropriately document the proposed projects.
  • Accept and foster the participation of interested parties.
  • Provide basic information on the projects, in regard to both the process and the outcome. This information shall be recorded in the GitHub repository that we shall create for this purpose at Github de Medialab Prado.
  • Store project materials in the relevant repository with open licenses that enable their reuse or adaptation.
  • List each participating team member and their role in the workshop in the project credits.

  • The organisation urges and supports the use of open-source programs to develop the projects.
  • The projects undertaken shall be publicly exhibited at Medialab Prado. Once the exhibition has ended, participants undertake to remove their materials within a maximum period of 15 days. After said period has lapsed, Medialab Prado reserves the right to handle these materials in any way that it deems appropriate.

Decision-Making. Project Evaluation Criteria

Selection Committee

The projects submitted will be evaluated by the team responsible for organising Visualizar’17 Migrations at Medialab Prado, along with the workshop coordination team and the relevant mentors.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Relevance to the general objectives and subject matter of the open call.
  • Project quality.
  • Originality and innovativeness of the project, and whether it is experimental.
  • Clarity of the proposal and suitability for the workshop's methodology and duration. The aim is to produce a prototype by the end of the workshop. Due to this, should the proposal relate only to part of a project which encompasses other phases, the proposal must detail all parts of the project for which a prototype could be produced within the allotted period, and the parts for which this would be impossible.
  • Combination of a variety of areas of knowledge.
  • Use of open-source tools and licenses.
  • The project will benefit the community.
  • Diversity in terms of approach and origin will be favourably viewed, with consideration given to how the project meshes with the other projects to be selected.

Accommodation and Travel

Upon request by participants who reside outside of Madrid, Medialab Prado will provide accommodation for the duration of the workshop.
It will also cover travel expenses for one person per selected proposal.

Workshop Language

The workshop will be held in both English and Spanish without any formal translation services, depending on the nationality or language spoken by the participants in said workshop.

Promotion and Continuation of the Projects

The projects developed will be publicly presented by the work teams on 30 September, the last day of the workshop.
After the workshop has ended an exhibition will be held at Medialab Prado. This exhibition will be publicised and open to the public.
Basic information on the projects, in regard to both the process and the outcome, shall be recorded in the repository to be made available for the project at Medialab Prado en Github.

Collaborating Organisations

This open call is also an invitation to organisations that work with data as the basic foundation of their activities in areas encompassed within the call’s proposed subject matter.
We invite these organisations to offer us data sets and to propose challenges with a view to developing these sets. During the open call for projects, proposals will constantly be incorporated.

Similarly, participants shall store their code in a repository that is accessible to the public (for example GitHub.com) and publish it under an open-source license that enables reuse thereof.

Any materials provided by MLP shall remain the property of said institution, even when they have been inseparably mixed with materials provided by participants. Participants shall remove their unused material within a maximum period of 15 days from the end of the activity. Once this period has lapsed, MLP reserves the right to deal with said material at its own sole discretion.
