INTERACTIVOS?'09: GARAGE SCIENCE

Call for papers

Selected papers will be publicly presented in a seminar within the frame of the Interactivos?'09: Garage Science event, that will take place January 28 through February 14, 2009. [Download call in pdf]

Purpose of the call:
The purpose of this call is the selection of 6 theoretical and research works about the theme proposed by Interactivos?'09: Garage Science, for their public presentation during this event. Descriptive and analytical studies on already finished art projects will also be considered.

The open call is aimed at researchers, artists, educators and any other professionals in any field related to the theme of this event.

Rules for participants:
Everyone interested in participating in this seminar  must send a summary of their research and a brief curriculum vitae via the online application form published at www.medialab-prado.es. For a better evaluation of the applications, we recommend to send the complete text as an attached file, in addition to the summary.

Proposals may be presented as an individual or as a group. Each participant or team may present as many projects as they wish.

Only texts written in English or Spanish will be accepted.

Valuation criteria:
· Originality and interest of the proposal
· Suitability to the general theme of Interactivos?'09: Garage Science
· Current status of the research process
· Educational value

Public presentation:
Selected works will be presented publicly by their authors throughout the seminar (January 28 and 29), in a 20-minute sessions followed by a 10 minute debate.

Selected works will also be published at the Medialab-Prado website under Creative Commons By-SA. (A copy of this licence can be consulted at: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/es)

Notwithstanding, all users may licence the use of their content under any licence scheme, preferably a free licence scheme to ensure wider dissemination. The licence applicable to the content should be clearly indicated on the corresponding work or publication.

Travel and lodging aid:
Pending application, Medialab-Prado will provide lodging in a Youth Hostel for selected participants residing outside of Madrid and will cover travel expenses. In the case of collectives, Medialab-Prado will cover travel expenses for just one person.

Collaboration in the production workshop:
An advanced project production workshop will follow the seminar, as a continuation of the Interactivos?'09: Garage Science program. Multidisciplinary task groups composed of the author/s and interested collaborators will develop eight projects selected through an international open call. This workshop will take place January 30 through February 14, 2009.

Medialab-Prado encourages paper applicants to take part as collaborators in the workshop after the Seminar. The call for collaborators will be open from December 30 through January 25 at Medialab-Prado's website.
