Interactivos?'08: Vision Play is focused on the research and reflection around image technologies and the mechanisms of visual perception.

• History of image technologies from their origins to the present: perspective, lenses, anamorphosis, panoramas, optical toys, magic lanterns, effects, optical illusions, etc.
• Beyond the screen: augmented reality, the use of projections on three-dimensional surfaces and physical objects, immersion environments, creation of images using sunlight and other conventional light sources not based on digital projection.
• Human visual perception, its qualities and limits.

Purpose of the call

The purpose of this call is the selection of a maximum of 8 theoretical and research papers around the subject matter of Interactivos?'08: Vision Play, for their public presentation during the event. Descriptive and analytical studies on already finished art projects will also be considered.

The open call is aimed at researchers, curators, artists, educators and any other professionals in any field related to the core topics of the event.

Rules for participants

Anyone interested in participating in this call must send a summary of their research and a brief curriculum vitae via the application form published in www.medialab-prado.es. For a better evaluation of the applications, we recommend to send the complete text in addition to the summary.

Proposals may be presented as an individual or as a group. Each participant or team may present as many papers as they wish.

Only texts written in Spanish, English or any other co-oficial language in the state of Spain will be admitted.

Application deadline

The application deadline is 25th April 2008 at Midnight (Madrid local time, GMT+1).

Selection process

Selected papers will be announced on the 6th May 2008.

Valuation criteria

• Adequacy of the research to the core topics of Interactivos?'08: Vision Play.
• Current status of the research process.

Public presentation

Selected works will be presented publicly by their authors on the 30th or 31th May 2008, in 20-minute sessions followed by a 10 minute debate.

The final versions of the texts must not exceed 5.000 words, and they should be sent before September the 1st.

Selected works will also be published (Spanish /English) at the Medialab-Prado website. Except where otherwise specified, such content is licensed under Creative Commons By-SA. (A copy of this licence can be consulted at: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/)

Notwithstanding, all users may licence the use of their content under any licence scheme, preferably a free licence scheme to ensure wider dissemination. The licence applicable to the content should be clearly indicated on the corresponding work or publication.

Travel and lodging aid

Pending application, Medialab-Prado will provide lodging in a Youth Hostel for selected participants residing outside of Madrid and will cover travel expenses. In the case of collectives, Medialab-Prado will cover travel expenses for just one person.
