United Visual Artists (UVA) are a London-based art and design practice creating large-scale light-based installations. Their work aims to create a powerful socialexperience, turning the audience into active participants. The relationship between space, the performer and the audience is at the very heart of United Visual Artists' practice.A primary driver for their work is collaboration, both within the practice and externally. This has led to projects with musicians such as Massive Attack, The Heritage Orchestra, Chemical Brothers, U2, and Battles. They created The V&A and Sony Playstation commission "Volume", which was the first major installation for the museum's John Madejski Garden. Currently touring internationally, "Volume" won the D&AD yellow pencil in 2007 for interactive installation and featured in the "Designsof The Year 2008" show at the Design Museum, London.Their most recent work "Chorus", a kinetic sculpture was commissioned by Opera North Projects to celebrate the re-opening of the Howard Assembly Room in Leeds. Established in 2003 by Chris Bird, Matt Clark and Ash Nehru, UVA has since grown to 15 people.United Visual Artists have received commissions and shown work with The British Council, The British Library, HSBC, Giorgio Armani, MTV, Nokia, Nuit Blanche Paris, onedotzero, Opera North Projects, Prada, Riflemaker, Sony Playstation, The V&A London, Vivienne Westwood, Warp Films and Yamaguchi Center for Arts & Media [YCAM] Japan.
