Magical elements of interactive computer music

Desde 13/04/2009 12:04 hasta 13/04/2009 12:04

This lecture aims to offer an overview of magical elements of interactive art and especially in performing interactive computer music.

We will begin by exploring general ideas about interactivity and its multiple roles in contemporary electronic art, highlighting electronic music works.

We will also look at the way these diverse media make use of properties inherent to our perceptive system and how these media are approached in contemporary art. On those foundations, we will look at concepts and direct applications of artificial perceptive systems, both auditory and visual, as well as artificial intelligence systems and how they function in the transduction, generation, etc. of interactive art works.

We will discuss the work of prominent authors in the field of interactive music, such as M. Mathews and F.R. Moore at Bell Labs, G. Lewis and his work, Voyager, M. Puckette, P. Manoury and the IRCAM Institute, M. Waisvisz and STEIM, etc. We will also cover other tendencies such as visual music, installations, performance art, etc. and their relevance to the key theme of the lecture, through the work of the Whitney brothers, David Rokeby, Paul DeMarinis, and others.
