CiCiLab promotes activities in which people participate in or develop scientific research processes. Modes of contributing to citizen science range from collecting and analysing experimental data (e.g. bird sighting and monitoring), carrying out tasks in a distributive manner (e.g. online classification of galaxies) and developing new tools and methods, to proposing and developing new scientific projects and experiments (e.g. the possibility of conducting genetic experiments in your own home). Citizen science seeks to help make scientific research more democratic and transversal, ensuring it encompasses a range of perspectives. It is based on the premises of Open Science, which fosters modes of experimentation and collective production of knowledge, making data, methods and results from scientific research processes accessible.

CiCiLab coordinates the DITOs European project (Doing It Together Science) in Spain, spearheading activities relating to environmental sustainability. Within this framework, it works in partnership with other labs to organise activities such as the workshop Interactivos?’17. Re-imagining Movement in the City, held in May 2017. It also organises events like the Citizen Science Meetings, collaborates with the Fluoride Saturdays programme of activities aimed at children, young people and families, and fosters working groups such as DIY Bio Madrid.
